Healthcare on the Air
Podiatrist
Michael Wodka
takes the mike.
Michael Wodka, D.P.M.,
thinks people should be
well informed about
health—so much so that every
Thursday at 1 p.m., the Orange
Regional Medical Center physician
takes a break from his podiatric
practice in Middletown to host a
radio talk show, Health Matters, live
on 1110 AM WTBQ, an ABC Affiliate.
The hour-long show features Orange
Regional Medical Center physicians
and other local experts discussing an
array of health topics.
"It’s an opportunity to educate
the public about healthcare options
that are available to them from
local, respected healthcare professionals," Dr. Wodka says. His guests
have included colorectal surgeons,
vascular surgeons, nurses, support groups, endocrinologists,
orthopedists and diabetes educators
discussing their specialties. “I try to
make it easy listening, fun and interesting.
And I find I learn something new
every single week.”
Dr. Wodka’s goal is to stimulate
people to talk to their doctors more.
“People tend to put doctors on a
pedestal. They’ll ask their car
mechanic more questions," he says.
Dr. Wodka encourages listeners to
call in with questions. Listeners can
remain anonymous by relaying their question to the show's engineer.
Past shows have featured a live broadcast from a local blood drive, Mobile Life Support Services, and publicized his charity project, Shoes for the Needy, which distributes as many as 20,000 pairs of shoes to children and adults each winter.
