Shoes For The Needy Drive
Where: Groo's Shoes, Middletown
When: Saturday January 12th at 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The annual SHOES FOR THE NEEDY DRIVE will get underway at the kick-off celebration at Groo's Shows on Schutt Road in Middletown on Saturday, January 12, 2006 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Shoe Drive itself will run through the end of March. Dr. Michael Wodka, podiatrist from Middletown, NY and host of "Health Matters" on AM1110 WTBQ, is the Chairman of the 7th annual SHOES FOR THE NEEDY DRIVE.
We ask for donations of new or gently used shoes for the needy men, women and children of our area, so their feet can be protected as best as possible against the winter weather. Last year, 20,000 pairs of shoes, sneakers and boots were collected and distributed through such agencies as the Red Cross, United Way, the Alamo and many others, including schools and religious groups.
There will be live music and entertainment, refreshments, give-aways, Dusty the Clown, Mix 97 radio, AM1110 WTBQ, discount coupons and much more. Community Blood Services will also be on hand with their mobile unit for anyone wishing to donate blood from 10 am to 2 pm. We ask that donated shoes be separated into bags or boxes for men's, women's, and children's and the pairs should be tied or rubber banded together.
If you would like to volunteer, are involved with an organization that can distribute shoes for the needy or if you would like more information about the Shoe Drive, call Dr. Michael Wodka's office at 692-3338. Volunteers are also welcome.
